I worked with Max throughout my A Level Economics course and later asked him to help me with my university application as well.
Economics was a subject I enjoyed, but I found it difficult to consistently get the marks I wanted in longer questions. Max really helped me understand the difference between knowing the content and actually writing an answer that would score highly. We spent a lot of time working on analysis and evaluation, and over time I became much more confident with essays.
When I decided to apply to Cambridge, Max also helped me with my personal statement and interview preparation. The interview practice was probably the most useful part because he didn’t just give me standard questions. He would challenge my answers, ask follow-up questions and make me think about Economics in a much deeper way.

I started having sessions with Max because I wanted to improve my IB Business Management grade and I was finding the IA quite stressful.
The biggest difference for me was that Max made everything feel much more manageable. Instead of looking at the whole course or IA as one huge piece of work, we broke things down and focused on one area at a time. He helped me understand how to use the business tools properly and, more importantly, how to actually apply them rather than just describe them.
His support with my IA was especially useful. He would read through my ideas, ask me questions and point out areas where my analysis wasn’t strong enough, but I still felt that the final work was completely my own.

Max worked with our son during his IB Economics course and became an incredibly important source of support during what was a very demanding couple of years.
Our son enjoyed Economics but sometimes struggled to organise his ideas and translate what he knew into the level of analysis required by the IB. Max was very good at identifying where he needed to improve and breaking things down into manageable steps. Over time, he became noticeably more confident both in class and in his written work.
Max also supported him with his Economics IA and Extended Essay. This was particularly valuable because he helped him develop his ideas, question his own arguments and improve the quality of his analysis without simply telling him what to write. Our son became much more independent as a result.
He later secured a place at NYU, which we were absolutely delighted about. The IB can be a stressful experience and having someone as calm, knowledgeable and supportive as Max made an enormous difference.

“Max tutored my son for his business studies A-level for almost 18 months. Business Studies wasn’t my son’s first choice of subject but due to timetabling restrictions it was his only option. He didn’t have a natural love for the subject and as someone with ADHD he particularly struggles with something he’s not interested in!

Max tutored my daughter for GCSE Business during the final year of her course. She had always found some of the theory quite difficult to remember and was especially unsure about how to turn what she knew into strong exam answers.

I started working with Max because I was finding Economics quite difficult and I was also preparing for an interview for the sixth form I really wanted to go to.
Before the tutoring, I understood some of the topics but I struggled to explain them properly in exams. Max helped me understand things much more clearly and showed me how to structure my answers so that I wasn’t losing marks unnecessarily. He always made sure I understood something before moving on and I never felt embarrassed asking questions.
He also helped me prepare for my sixth-form interview.
